SLOW U - Sustainable Seafood (Sashimi and More)

Tuesday, October 16, 2012 (
6:00pm to 8:00pm

Join Sean Dimin, of Sea to Table, to learn about sustainable New England and Mid-Atlantic fisheries and the family fishers who harvest them. While Sean presents, Julia Sullivan, Haven's Kitchen resident Chef, formerly of Franny's and Per Se, will butcher yesterday's catch and prepare sashimi and other delectable dishes that you will savor with New York wines selected for the occasion.

Sea to Table partners with local fishers from sustainable, wild fisheries helping them find better markets for their catch. Creating a direct connection between fisher and chef, Sea to Table delivers today's catch overnight to restaurants enabling diners to know the 'who, how and where' of the impossibly fresh fish they enjoy.

Haven's Kitchen is a recreational cooking school, specialty food shop, and event space. Located in a charming carriage house two blocks from Manhattan's Union Square, Haven's Kitchen is dedicated to the preparation and enjoyment of delicious, sustainable, seasonal food.

Proceeds from this event help support the programs of not-for-profit Slow Food NYC, including the Urban Harvest program of good food education which reaches NYC kids in 11 schools in the South Bronx, East Harlem, Lower East Side, Brooklyn, and at a summer urban farm in the East New York neighborhood of Brooklyn. Urban Harvest kids learn the importance of good, clean, and fair food to their health, the health of their families and communities, and the health of the planet.
