Thank you to everyone who attended on May 24. If you weren’t able to attend or want to watch the conversation again, the recording is now available on our YouTube channel.
Our local and global food systems have managed through unprecedented challenges in the last two years, in addition to the ongoing impacts of climate change, supply chain disruption, and food inequity. Still, there are some bright spots that have emerged out of these dark times. We have seen tremendous resilience in the face of adversity, and innovation in response to hardship. Join Slow Food NYC to hear more from advocates and innovators who are leading the way forward. Hear from our panelists including:
Marisel Salazar, Food Journalist & Host
Karen Washington, Founder, Rise & Root Farm
Matt Jozwiak, Founder and CEO, Rethink Food
A suggested donation of $10 (or more if you are able) will directly support the growing season at Slow Food NYC's Urban Harvest Farm at Ujima, which is completely funded by New Yorkers like you.
In 2021 amid the COVID-19 crisis, Urban Harvest produced and donated over 1,000 pounds of farm-fresh produce during the growing season—including tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, eggplants, okra, beans, and basil—to the Coretta Scott-King Senior Housing Facility and to a mutual-aid fridge at Universe City, two organizations based in the same neighborhood as our garden. Our volunteers grew 100 varieties of plants and composted more than 500 pounds of plant materials and food waste with the support of our community.
