Food Waste, Food Rescue: An Enlightened Eaters Panel Discussion

  • God's Love We Deliver 166 6th Avenue New York, NY, 10013 United States (map)

From spoiled veggies to uneaten leftovers, most people don't realize the amount of food they toss out every day. Unfortunately, about 95 percent of that discarded food ends up in landfills or combustion facilities. Once in landfills, food breaks down and produces methane, which contributes to climate change.

Join our panel discussion hosted by James Beard Foundation, Natural Gourmet Institute, and Slow Food NYC to learn more about how forward-thinking organizations are innovating food rescue efforts, and what you can do to reduce your own food waste.

Panelists include:

Robert Lee, Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer, Rescuing Leftover Cuisine

Meredith Danberg-Ficarelli, Operations Manager, Common Ground Compost

Mark Russell, Executive Chef de Cuisine, Great Performances

Elizabeth Balkan, Director of Policy & Senior Advisor, NYC Department of Sanitation

The discussion will be moderated by Kelly McGlinchey, Board Member, Slow Food NYC & Director of Food Education, Butter Beans.

Enlightened Eaters is an educationally minded series of readings, workshops, discussions, and other programs focusing on health, nutrition, sustainability, and environmental issues. There is no charge to attend, but RSVPs are required. Snacks will be provided by the Natural Gourmet Institute and beverages will be provided by Indie Wineries.

Seating is limited — first come, first served — so arrive early to guarantee your spot!
