Since 1818, the Farmers' Almanac has provided uncannily accurate weather predictions that inform farmers’ planting, harvesting, and day-to-day living. Earlier this year, Slow Food New York City - inspired by the “Farmers’ Almanac” - hosted the 10th Annual Food Almanac, a singular opportunity for food-active individuals to be informed and to consider food and farming policy challenges, opportunities, and action in the year ahead.
The panel was moderated by Naama Tamir, Owner of Lighthouse and Slow Food NYC's 2019 Snailblazer with expert panelists including Linda LaViolette of New York Department of Agriculture & Markets, Zaid Kurdieh of Norwich Meadows Farm, and Larry Tse of Dig Inn Farm. Local beer, slow wine, and seasonal bites were generously provided by HoneyFlower Foods, Ox Verte, Brooklyn Brewery, Chamber St Wines, AeroFarms, Martin’s Pretzels, and BjornQorn. Special thanks to Project Farmhouse and all of the Slow Food NYC volunteers who helped to make this event a success, as it was an evening to remember with many impactful learnings and inspiring conversations. We’re already looking forward to next year and future moments when we can gather again in-person with our community.
In the meantime, join us for our next Virtual Community Happy Hour (more information here) on Wednesday, April 29 and see below for a visual review of the Food Almanac for those who were not able to attend or for folks who want to reminisce on the fun.
