During the height of the COVID-19 crisis, urban and rural communities alike have found themselves struggling with food insecurity. Restaurants, food assistance nonprofits, and other groups have supported their communities through innovative and greatly needed emergency food aid.
While these efforts have offered temporary relief, they’ve also shone a spotlight on the fragile and broken food system in America, especially on the inequities and disparities inherent across so much of the supply chain.
Our panel, moderated by Adrian Lipscombe and featuring panelists Nate Mook (CEO, World Central Kitchen); Lisa Held (Senior Policy Reporter, Civil Eats); and Tanya Denise Fields (Founder and Executive Director, Black Joy Farm and the Black Feminist Project) will share what their respective organizations have witnessed and undertaken during the pandemic, and also discuss what policy measures, at both the local and federal level, might have the most meaningful impact on reducing the inequities of our food system. Please join us for what will be an invigorating conversation.
While this event is free, we encourage you to consider making a donation to Slow Food NYC to help our Urban Harvest program combat food insecurity through food production and distribution efforts in East New York.
